I will never forget seeing my first bald eagle. It felt really good. On our ferry ride from Victoria to Vancouver dozens of eagles flew over us – it was majestic.
Went through the pics again, about 20 tops. They were flying over the ferry and some over the islands. My memory exaggerate too much. Vic corrected me. I can’t remember when we left, it was in the morning. Maybe they were hunting. Hum, will go read about bald eagles later, don’t really know anything.
Such a striking picture! It couldn’t have been easy to capture this? I’m amazed by anyone who can capture birds on camera. I think they’re especially difficult to capture because is you’re slow, the next thing you know — they’re gone. 😦
This guy seemed comfortable with his spot, he knew I was no threat. I was able to get fairly close. Adding a 300 mm lens, crop sensor, and post process cropping got me even “closer”.
I’m late to the party Dave, but this is an incredible shot. Remember way back when bald Eagles were on the endangered species list, and finding one in the wild required an extended hike to remote locales and a LOT of luck?
It does seem to depend a lot on where you are. Around here they’re few and far between, but if I go up to ocean shores in North or NW Washington it’s a good bet I’ll see one or more.
BTW, you missed a bigger party too. The post before this one was #100!
This is very impressive! It looks so sharp as well. I’ve seen some diving in the ocean once to fish (I was on an eagle tour in Scotland) but I was quite far away and never manage to see them so well!! wow
Majestic bird!

The body language does suggest that, doesn’t it?

He is a big guy. And I got fairly close, had my telephoto, and cropped a bit. It all added up to a nice shot, worthy of my first Wordless Wednesday.

Dozens – wow! I’ve never seen more than 10-12. They are impressive birds.

You know, from this angle it looks like a scene out of a horror movie – I see a giant bird crouched over the top of a palm tree!

Yes, I got fairly close to this guy, maybe 25-30 meters. The telephoto helped a lot, plus some additional cropping.

He was scoping me out even closer than I was scoping him out. I have to wonder what he was thinking.
